One of the best and most popular snus brands is Ettan snus. The brand was created by Jacob Fredrik Ljunglof and was founded back in 1822. What makes this brand popular is its unique taste of tobacco with a hint of smokiness and chocolate undertones. Ljungloft, along with his chemist friend Jacob Berzelius, were working on a way to produce snus using fresh tobacco. Initially, snus was being produced by the use of fermented tobacco. The two developed a production method that saw this snus brand being produced in one week rather than waiting for the tobacco to ferment which took almost six months.
Tobacco, water, and salt are the only basic ingredients used to make Ettan snus. However, a lot of ingredients have been added to this snus including malt, notes of smoke, and a hint of dark chocolate to make it much better. The formula of Ettan was kept a secret by Ljunglof; he wrote the formula in a coded format. The brand had no flavour additives except salt, tobacco, bicarbonate, and water. However, Ettan was very perishable by then. Jacob Fredrik Ljunglof, the co-inventor of snus died in 1860 and he was very rich by then. His son Knut Ljunglof took over the business.
Ettan Snus Today
Today, Ettan has turned to be a very prominent brand. In approximate, Ettan accounts for a fifth of the snus sales in Sweden. Sweden is the biggest market for Ettan as well as all the other snus brands. Ettan is a brand that has never lost its same flavour since it was first developed. The reason behind this is the use of the same basic recipe during the production process. However, the range of Ettan has recently been expanded with new varieties of the same brand being produced. Among the varieties are the Ettan white portion and the Ettan original portion.
